Blastocyst Culture

Blastocyst Culture
Advantages
  1. To eliminate high order multiple gestations in any group of patients at risk of conceiving a multiple gestation.
  2. More implantation rate.
  3. Reduced number of embryos transferred.
  4. Synchronization between the embryo and female tract.
  5. Assessment of embryo viability post genome activation.
  6. Avoids exposure to OHSS.
  7. Reduced uterine contraction on day 5.
  8. Cryopreservation of embryos at blastocyst is more successful than earlier stages. Time for diagnosis if PGD done.
  9. Reduced pregnancy loss.
  10. Assessment of development and viability.

Disadvantages

Main disadvantage of extended blastocyst culture is the possibility that a patient will not have a blastocyst for transfer.
