This is when the bottom end of the baby is coming first. As it is more likely that a baby presenting bottom first will be delivery by cesarean, the doctor will usually have tried to turn the baby's head first by pressing on the abdomen, this is usually done about the 36th week of pregnancy. If this has been unsuccessful then the doctor, with the aid of ultrasound and X-rays, will decide what form of delivery is advisable. If you have a vaginal delivery, labor proceeds as for headfirst babies but an epidural or spinal is more likely to be advised. You deliver with your legs supported in stirrups and forceps are used to make the head deliver slowly. |
