There are many reasons for having a cesarean, which is performed for the safety either of the mother or of the baby. Some of the more common reasons are that the mother's pelvis is too small, that the baby needs to be delivered quickly as he is becoming short of oxygen (fetal distress), because of the risk of hemorrhage in placenta previa or because of a previous cesarean.
The baby is delivered by an operation. The choice of anesthesia is either spinal or general. One of the advantages of spinal is that you are conscious when your baby is born and can participate in the excitement of his arrival. |
